Today was the last stop of Le Tour de Houston Summer 2016 at Cottage Grove Park which is off TC Jester and I-10. Marcelo “Chelin” Garza who is one of group members introduced this park to our Houston Streetball group a while back and told us when we did the tour, to put Cottage Grove on the map and he would have a special treat for everyone who showed up. It’s been raining through out the week but today the weather was perfect for an afternoon of hooping.
Marcelo who grew up in Cottage Grove throughout the early 90’s told me that he was going to throw a BBQ for everyone that showed up, I told him that I was going to pitch in and help out too. My wife made some delicious potato salad and I bought some marinated chicken quarters to take over. Marcelo went all out today and cooked some ribs, fajitas, pork loin, sausage, and the chicken quarters that I took and some tortillas.
I only played two games today since I wanted to have some fun and mostly sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful evening with everyone who showed and eat some delicious BBQ, I ate a lot so I really couldn’t move much afterwards 🙂
Today was just a great afternoon with a lot of people stopping by today and showing support for Houston Streetball. Amazingly this July, all the stops we had perfect weather with the exception at the Amity Tour stop to play basketball.
I would like to thank everyone that came out today and pulled through for the final spot of the tour. I think we had over 35+ people show up this evening and of course with new people I told them about our group and are now part of it. I would like to thank Deonte Morris, Jonathan “La Tortilla” Fernandez (did another tortilla roll today), Brandon “Midrange” Earl, Adrian Leron Justice who came all the way from Katy. I want to thank Boris Rillos who has showed up the last few spots from Spring. Alex Montes, Marco Sanchez, Richard Cazares , and James Winston who showed up from Settegast Park. Of course a big shout out to Marcelo Garza and the Cottage Grove locals Herminio Barrientos, Meloman Ace, Steven Fernandez and Mike Garza and the rest to make everyone feel like they were at home. The food was awesome and most importantly the friendship we continue making is what the group is about.
This concludes the Summer Le Tour 2016.
