Today we hit up Burnett Bailey Park as the penultimate stop on the tour. This park is located on the Southwest side on Chimney Rock off 59. I had hooped here long time ago once or twice in the early 2000’s when I worked as a security guard for some apartments near by and that was the last time I had gone until today. I told my fellow hoopers from Charlton Park if they wanted to go with me but they didn’t feel like going over there today, either way since I am a man of my word, I decided to venture solo.
When I got there, I didn’t see any familiar faces right away and was kind of thinking that I would probably just play one game and leave but I saw a group member, Charles Lockhart who was on the court playing and waved at me. There was two games already in front of me and so I waited patiently until it was my turn. At this court the game is played 4vs4 half court but for some odd reason, they don’t use the three point lines so every field goal is just 1 point, but the games are till 12. Since I drove by myself when it was my turn, I didn’t want to sit out anymore so I actually picked up Charles and two other guys and ran with them. The first game I went all out and did my usual crossovers to the right and left and nailed a couple of jump shots and made some great assists. We ended up winning 5 games in a row until the lights went off literally.
While there wasn’t the big turn out like we had at Blossom Heights, I still had fun and in a sort of way kind of worked out better for me since I didn’t have to bring all my stuff down. I want to thank all the players on the court for being respectful and welcoming to the park. Big thanks to Charles Lockhart and everyone who showed up. Shout out to Kendrick Jones and Tay who are from Agnes Park to play a game, although they came late so they only played one game.
The last stop is this Sunday at Cottage Grove Park off i-10 and TC Jester, do not miss out as the Tour comes to a close.
