The anticipated Le Tour de Houston kicked off today coincidentally with Le Tour de France (wasn’t planned). Our first stop and the farthest in the tour was at Martin Luther King Park at Tomball which is the stomping grounds of a few members from our group such as Josh Rodriguez and Kyren Peacock and a few others. I along with fellow hoopers from Charlton, Ryan Cathcart and Devante Anderson made the long drive to represent.
We had well over 30 people show up in the very beginning and it made it difficult to figure out what to do as far as organizing pickup games but after a couple of minutes of debating we decided to have 5 team captains (first who made a three) and choose the remaining players. We used two courts but played sideways in the beginning because one of the courts was missing a net. The plan in the beginning was that all teams play each other once, like a mini tournament but after a while a couple of players had to leave, some got tired and a few others decided to play craps instead which made it better to play at the court with the net.
The weather today was perfect and today’s turn out was better than expected and we met a lot of new people. The next stop is next Friday and hopefully as we continue these stops we get bigger crowds and have more people join our group. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and made it fun.
