It had rained all morning, I wasn’t sure if basketball was going to be on the agenda today but by the time noon rolled around, the sun was in all it’s splendor. I couldn’t wait to get out of work and hit up the first venue on the Le Tour de Houston which was South Park Baptist Church. A few of the daily chatters from group on facebook for Houston Streetball; Chris Uno, Kevin Tran, Ryan Cathcart, Jordan, Tyson Hamilton, Devante Anderson, Philip Ethridge, and myself had confirmed that we would be up at the gym to get some games in.
Normally Tuesdays already has a lot of people at the church, and since Chris Uno first invited me, there’s a waiting list to play and with new people showing up this would mean that you had to play good games to avoid sitting down and waiting a long time to play again. When I got there, Kevin Tran and Ryan Cathcart were next on the list to play and they had three extra guys on their team and they did okay. Kevin tried to get fancy and did a 360 layup which he missed but grabbed the rebound and put it up. Since it was their first time playing at South Park they lost.
Next to play was Chris Uno, Paul, myself and two other guys. When playing in the hood, ballers play very physical and foul you pretty much at any opportunity you get the ball, I got fouled a few times but only called a foul that was pretty apparent however there was a lot of other calls that went unmarked. Chris shot a good two good 2 pointers and I was able to nail down one when I was wide open. We couldn’t any more buckets afterwards since the defense was pretty tight and we had many turnovers.
The guys above won pretty much won all the games straight and only lost in the end after 6 games or so because of fatigue. The guy in the middle kind of reminded me Tyson Chandler and kept making easy buckets down in the paint and the guy with the Houston Texans tshirt kept hitting nothing but 3 pointers (2pts), all the other guys held their own and played good defense… I think supposedly they play in a league and that would explain the good chemistry, maybe next time I should take Rocket Town and try to play against them.
A lot of people kept asking me why I was taking so many pictures but after explaining to them about the group and the website they were interested in joining and hopefully come out to hoop with us, so hopefully we will catch some more ballers. The next stop will be Thursday February 25th, at The Kingdom Rock Church over by Edgebrook, hope to see you there and #houstonstreetball
